    The Cyber Security Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are interested in protecting organisations from cyber threats and want to start a career in IT security. This programme provides the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to detect, analyse, and respond to cyber incidents across a range of digital systems.

    As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while you learn, gaining real-world experience in a cyber security environment alongside structured training at ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓ. The apprenticeship typically lasts around 18 to 24 months.

  • What you'll learn

    You’ll learn how to monitor networks and systems for security breaches, respond to alerts, and support the implementation of security measures. The course also covers risk assessment, threat analysis, incident response, and the use of cyber security tools and technologies.

    In addition to technical knowledge, you’ll develop skills in communication, problem-solving, and teamwork—essential for working effectively in fast-paced IT and security environments.
  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Cyber Security Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship—just a strong interest in technology and a desire to protect digital systems. This programme is ideal for individuals who are analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn about cyber threats and defences.

    However, some employers may set their own entry requirements, such as specific GCSEs or a relevant Level 2 qualification. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—support will be provided to help you achieve these essential qualifications alongside your training.
  • How will I be assessed?

    You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through a combination of practical tasks, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will support you in developing your skills and tracking your progress.

    At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a professional discussion, a knowledge test, and a project report to demonstrate your competence and readiness to work independently as a cyber security technician.

    If you’re interested in this apprenticeship, the first step is to register your interest with ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓ. This will add you to our mailing list so we can keep you informed about any upcoming apprenticeship vacancies or employer opportunities in your chosen field.

    To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.
  • Future opportunities

    After completing this apprenticeship, you could progress into roles such as Cyber Security Analyst, Information Security Officer, or Network Security Technician. You may also choose to continue your studies with a Level 4 Cyber Security Technologist Apprenticeship or a related IT qualification.

    This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in cyber security, with opportunities to work in a wide range of sectors including finance, healthcare, government, and technology.
